Mission Statement

The Mission of Eastern Shores School Board is to provide leadership that will contribute to the best possible teaching-learning environment in each of our schools and centers. It is our mission to promote this learning in an atmosphere of mutual respect between all actors. It is our goal that students entrusted in our care will become caring, autonomous and responsible citizens of the 21st century

ESSB Overview

Eastern Shores School Board is quite possibly the most geographically diverse school board in the province of Quebec. Stretching from Fermont in the north to the Magdalen Islands in the Southeast, its administrative territory also includes the entire Gaspe Peninsula as well as the cities of Baie Comeau, Sept-Iles and Port Catier along the eastern north shore. There were 1097 students registered in 16 youth sector schools and 197 registered in five adult/vocational education centers, as of Sept 30, 2017. Of the 16 schools, six are elementary, three are secondary, and the remaining seven are combined elementary-secondary schools.

Elementary Schools

The majority of our elementary schools benefit from low student-teacher ratios thereby providing a healthy and enjoyable learning environment. We have been classified as a New Approaches, New Solutions (NANS) district with 12 of our 16 schools participating. In many cases this has enabled teachers to complement and strengthen best practices within the classroom.

Secondary Schools

As with the elementary schools, our secondary schools also benefit from low student-teacher ratios. We strive to provide students with every possibility to maximize their academic and social potential within a healthy and safe environment. All of our secondary schools provide an academic curriculum as prescribed by the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec, leading to a Secondary School Diploma.

Adult and Vocational Education

The adult and vocational centers provide a wide variety of services to clients within ESSB territory. The adult learning and vocational landscape continues to grow as lifelong learning initiatives take root with local school principals, community partners and MELS. The transition from young learner to autonomous lifelong learners contributing to the cultural, economic, and social development of their community is an operating mantra to adult learning.
